5 Plus Factors of the New HUAWEI MateBook 14s (aka the Laptop+)
When tech brands added "plus" or "pro" to their new products, expect an extra mile of wonderful features that will "wow" you and will make you feel smarter than yesterday. With HUAWEI, the brand bravely leveled up its latest MateBook, and they called it the "Laptop+" (read as Laptop Plus) – or better known as the HUAWEI MateBook 14s.
With its power and lightweight features, I took this latest innovation around town to find out more about its durability, convenience, and spectacular features that made it "The Laptop+". I learned so many great things about this latest product that fits perfectly well with my lifestyle – and given how hard it is to travel around now, I find it convenient and powerful.
1. Top-notch Details
When it comes to look, HUAWEI MateBook 14s' sophisticated appearance boasts elegance and simplistic style thanks to its unpolished CNC texture on the edge of its bottom side that provides more comfortable transition and touch. I enjoyed carrying it around as I travel around town as its 150-grit sandblasting process gives a smooth and metallic touch for a warm and lustrous look, as well as a comfortable grip.
A perfect companion in business, school, or leisure, this HUAWEI MateBook 14s has a FullView Display that goes around the side providing a narrow bezel that creates an immersive viewing experience. I find it perfectly nice especially when I tried watching some videos on YouTube, Facebook, and other available streaming sites. Its innovative Laser Soldering also sports a 720P IR camera on its top bezel, which highlighted the facial recognition features of this Laptop+, while maintaining a high screen-to-body ratio of 90%.
Also topping my favorite features of this HUAWEI MateBook 14s is its Fingerprint Power Button, which is a two-in-one power button and a fingerprint reader that Huawei introduced to the laptop PCs and is found in many other Huawei laptops now. When it comes to the keyboard, it has a full-sized on that offers 1.5mm key travel and is made of polycarbonate that optimized tactility for a more comfortable typing experience.
For the best part, which I and my niece found nice – you gotta love the HUAWEI MateBook 14s' Touch Screen Support. With the 10-point multi-touch support, this gadget impresses me with its smartphone-like functionality and convenience, especially when handling tasks on apps or in Multi-screen Collaboration. Its high-quality screen features high transmittance that shares great refractiveness, as well as tolerance to corrosion, temperature, and yellowing effects.
2. Lightweight Portability
While the initial features mentioned may seem impossible to fit in a portable and light-weight gadget, the HUAWEI MateBook 14s packs in superiority in a 313.82mm x 229.76mm x 16.7mm dimension, weighing approximately 1.43kg, with the thickest part measuring about 16.7mm., offering great portability when traveling or working in a remote area.
From Pasay to Manila and to the Walled City of Intramuros, carrying this MateBook brings so much joy and convenience as I discovered new foodie spots and write about these experiences in my HUAWEI MateBook 14s. And since I'm on the go, connecting its Wi-Fi 6 to my portable Wi-Fi routers, it provided me the speed that I needed to remain productive and creative while outside.
3. Impressive and Immersive Performance
The HUAWEI MateBook 14s' versatile performance is topped with its 11th Generation Intel® Core™ processors that lets its user work on intensive tasks and multi-tasking needs simultaneously. By simply connecting to another PC, smartphone, or tablet, you can utilize its Multi-screen Collaboration feature that provides a smarter experience. You can also connect earphones, mouse, speakers, printers, and even HUAWEI Vision with this for a more collaborative and immersive experience making it perfect for pitching ideas or presenting reports at work or in school or even for some quality time with your loved ones at home.
The HUAWEI MateBook 14s, FullView Display allows its user to enjoy its 2.5K resolution (2520x1680) and superb pixel density at 213 ppi that shows the most minute detail of every webpage, image, and video that you look at. With this, each content comes to life vibrantly thanks to the display's support for 100% of the sRGB color space, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and a peak brightness of 400 nits. Given its high clarity and vibrancy, the HUAWEI MateBook 14s is equipped with a hardware solution that passed the TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (Hardware Solution) Certification. Its display has also obtained the TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification, helping our eyes alleviate eye fatigue, especially over a long period. Aside from those, this MateBook is also loaded with a light sensor, which automatically adjusts its color and brightness to a proper level – making it friendlier to our eyes.

The HUAWEI MateBook 14s' complimented its amazing video capability with superb audio power that is packed with a quad-speaker sound system consisting of two tweeters and two woofers. The woofers are said to have a capacity of up to 4.0cc and have a maximum amplitude of 0.5mm, which enables them to produce powerful bass. But in my case, since I also own a HUAWEI FreeBuds 4, I get to enjoy the audio connectivity that the HUAWEI ecosystem can provide.
4. High-Capacity Battery Power & More Powerful Ports
One of the impressive features that I also enjoyed while taking the HUAWEI MateBook 14s around town is its superior battery power that last for almost two days that I used it after fully charging it. Its 60Wh battery (rated value) can also support 13 hours of continuous 1080p video playback, which provides a fully immersive experience and productivity. With its 90W power adapter, you can superfast-charge the HUAWEI MateBook 14s or any other Huawei smartphone or tablet with a USB-C port.
And speaking of the USB-C port, the HUAWEI MateBook 14s includes two full-featured USB-C ports in its features along with a USB3.2 Gen 1 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and an HDMI port. This Silver Grey edition is also equipped with a ThunderboltTM 4 port, which simplifies the interface functionality. It simply replaces the ports for network connection, audio connectivity, data transfer, and even charging. This one port fulfills your needs in many scenarios at work such as data transmission, peripheral connection, and even charging.
