#AlexReviews: HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition

We cannot deny the fact that children now around the globe from the moment their eyes can see til they grow up are spending more and more time in front of their parent's or guardian’s mobile gadgets. This growing case has pros and cons that are still up for deliberation across the world. While the debate on this is still ongoing, technology giants such as HUAWEI is already a step ahead of their competitors by producing a child-friendly gadget that could help kids nourish as they grow, while keeping parents at peace with the security features included in this latest innovation – the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition.

For this Review, my 8-year-old niece also shared her thoughts about this latest gadget.

I’m not a parent, but living in an extended family has thought me so many things in life including how to take care of the young ones. And being an uncle to an 8-year-old girl is more of a blessing in life than a challenge. That’s why in this review blog, I invited my niece and asked for her opinions about the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition.

At a very young age, my niece has been introduced to a wide range of mobile gadgets that have been sharing with her some incredible and funny stuff and the idea that amaze us most of the time. From having a tablet at a very young age, Elaisha has her smartphone, tablet, and laptop now, which she usually uses for online school, for entertainment, and communication with us. And as much as we want to control her screen time, being at home now due to pandemic, we were left with no choice but to let her keep playing with her gadgets until she gets tired of playing them – a habit I believe most of the parents around the world are guilty of now.

Thankfully, with the recent launch of HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition, parents can reintroduce gadgets to their young ones in a safe way without sacrificing their health, youthfulness, and learnings.

More Than Just a Toy
Possessing an 8-inch size, the new HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition comes as a perfect tool for kids age 3-8 as this is considered their formative years. During this time of their lives, kids are very eager to know a lot of things around them, most especially if these things are usually used by their parents – such as gadgets.

When it comes to appearance, the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition didn’t fall short of having that signature HUAWEI simplistic approach. Each purchase of this tablet comes with a Kids Case that is made to protect both the user and the gadget itself.

“I like the size of it. It’s not that small like my phone, but it’s not that big like my other tablet. Though I hope that I can choose the case, because this one looks like for boys only, I like how handy it is. And oh, there’s also a pen at the back of the case, which I can use in some of the games. I don’t think I will lose this one, because it is tied up in the case, and it has this space at the back,” my niece Elaisha shared as I asked for her initial reaction on the HUAWEI MatePad Kids T 8 Kids Edition.

Right now, the available case color is the one that you can see in my photos. This Kids Case is made from environment-safe silicone consisting of a blue shell and light green grips, it is comfortable and enjoyable to hold for small hands. The tablet’s case also features curved backs, giving its users a delicate and rounded grip. Both the Kids Case and the stylus pen meet the European Standards on the Safety of Toys and pass the Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS), which will let parents feel safe and secure while allowing their children to enjoy the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition.

Meanwhile, the tablet itself possesses an ultra-slim bezel that shares an immersive visual experience. Through the use of the stylus pen that comes with the Kids Case, kids can enjoy more interactive moments with this gadget letting them enjoy some games that include writing, coloring, or even drawing.

Made for Fun and Learning
Tailored to Kids’ likings and informative needs and habits, the new HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition offers a lot of fun features that support your kids’ interests in painting, audio, and video recording, photography, and other features that can stimulate their techy minds.

In the Kids’ Corner – an application that HUAWEI is continuously innovating for the changing needs of kids around the world - kids and parents can enjoy recording songs or stories that they can collect into an album. They can also save and record videos of some learning activities at home, which they can cherish as time goes by.

When asked about the applications in the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition, Elaisha shares: “I almost forgot that there’s no Youtube in it because the games in the Kids Corner are nice. There are too many games in it that I will never get bored.”

Kids’ Corner in the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition was made possible through the company’s partnership with Azoomee and BabyBus, two leading educational developers creating mobile apps for children. Every purchase of the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition comes with a free three-month membership to Baby Panda World, and a free one-year membership to Azoomee. And since we’re already on the topic of usage, HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition takes pride in its Multi-layered Eye Protection and Parental Assistant features that will set this latest innovation different from the ones available in the market now.

These include Low Blue Light Certification, a built-in color adjustment module that intelligently adjusts the content on the display, offering a discrete eye protection mode. This MatePad’s ambient light sensor enables multi-layered eye protection for your child’s eyes that turns cold tones into warm color tones protecting the eyes from myopia. Then, there’s also the Posture and Bumpy Road Alerts, which is prompted by the built-in gravity sensor that helps determine whether the user is lying flat. Aside from that in any case you are traveling, this MatePad can also detect shaking that prompts and encourages them to develop better eye habits.

For kids who are into reading eBooks, the HUAWEI MatePad t 8 Kids Edition also comes with an eBook mode that lets its users enjoy a paper-like reading experience with adjusted contrast, brightness, sharpness, saturation, color, temperature, grayscale and more to provide a quality and e-ye-friendly reading experience.

Meanwhile, parents can comfortably let their young ones enjoy their gadgets as the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition also comes with numerous safety features, giving parents the ultimate peace of mind. In Kid’s Corner, parents can indicate there their kid’s profile that can record their gadget usage time along with the apps that they used over any given period. Get access to the content to the activities that often use and manage your child’s exposure to such content to further widen their experience. And since online school has already started in most schools in the Philippines, you can also apply usage scheduling in the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition wherein you can allow your kids to use the gadget on a specific timeframe on a specific date. This way, you can help bring the perfect balance between study and play for your kids.

Aside from those, another security feature indicated in the HUAWEI MatePad T 8 Kids Edition is the Quick Access Password that lets the parents and kids create their passwords. With the Parents’ Password, this gives the parents total control over the MatePad that the kids cannot undo, while on the Kid’s Password, it lets the kid unlock the device without the help from parents but can only access a limited section of the MatePad, which will give parents some peace of mind as their kids enjoy their latest gadget.
