Let's Race Against Hunger!

In  partnership with TNT and Unilever, United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is about to set another world record as they open the registration for the forthcoming Walk the World 2011 - Pilipinas.

For those who don't have an idea about World Food Programme, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. And each year, on average, WFP feeds more than 90 million people in more than 70 countries.

A few months ago, I got to attend the turnover of donations of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell to WFP. And this time, they are making it big, together with the other sponsors, on it's fifth year, WFP takes another leap with Walk the World 2011.

On May 29th, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., WFP together with its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM will take us to a journey - a WALK - that will raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest places in our country and in our world.

To join on this heart-warming simple deed, just log-on to www.walktheworld-pilipinas.org to download a copy of the registration form. Please take note that this online registration is only available from April 27 to May 27.

The categories for this event are 2K Walk, 5k Run and 10K Run.

For the 2K Walk, a Php250.00 entry fee is required to join. An event shirt will be given to the participants and the walk will start at 5:45 a.m.

As for the 5K Run, participants will be divided into men and ladies' division and a Php500.00 entry fee will be required for them qualify on this run. Race kit, singlet and baller ID will be given to the registered participants and the run will start at 5:30 a.m.

And lastly, 10K Run is open to groups of runners and a Php10,000.00 entry fee is required. Each member of the group will receive a race kit, singlet, baller ID, button pins, and team plaque. The run for this category will start a little earlier at 5:15 a.m.

Since this run is for a good cause, there will be no cash prizes for the winning teams, but instead medals and premium items will be given to the ones who reach the finish line first. Drinks will be provided at the finish line at strategic areas in the race course. There will also be a roving and at standby medical aid and ambulance services available throughout the event at SM Mall of Asia.

And to give a quick peeps as to what happened to the blogger's night that was held for this event, here are the pictures!

TEN PESOS - it is the only cost WFP needs to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school.  School feeding programmes give parents that extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help them lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.

In order for WFP to achieve their dream to help these unfortunate kids, they need our support, so they are really knocking on our good hearts to join them in this advocacy and help them provide these kids - these families - a better, healthier and stronger future. And with Walk the World Pilipinas -  a step towards ending hunger is a race against hunger.

See you at the run!
