Ganap na Babae will open Cinemalaya 2010

One of the most awaited film festival this year, Cinemalaya 6, an eventful gathering of the cream of the crops and new breeds as they will showcase their latest and hottest work of arts.


And to start off, Cinemalaya 2010 or Cinemalaya 6 will opens its door with Hubo’s Ganap na Babae.


Directed by Rica Arevalo, Ellen Ramos and Sarah Ramos, this film has three stories that are interwoven to see the plight of Filipino women from the sensitive eyes of three contemporary women directors. Starring a powerhouse cast led by the legendary Miss Boots Anson-Roa, Cannes’ Most Beautiful Actress Mercedes Cabral, Urian’s Best Supporting Actress Sue Prado and newcomer Jam Pérez.

The story goes like this: a prostitute, two sisters, and a widow come together to tell their stories about womanhood.

A woman (Mercedes Cabral) shares her soul as a prostitute in front of the camera. A survivor, she looks back at her life as a mother. Milagros (Sue Prado) and Elena (Jam Pérez) are sisters tilling camote (sweet potato) in a dry land. Poverty provokes Elena to migrate as a mail-order bride in Japan while Milagros stays to take care of the family. Eos (Boots Anson Roa) is a widow who falls in love with a younger man, Rodrigo (Rome Mallari). They try to make the relationship work amidst the pressure of their family and the society. Three stories are interwoven to see the plight of Filipino women from the sensitive eyes of three contemporary women directors.

Ganap na Babae Gala Premiere is on 09 July 2010, 6:00 PM at the CCP Tanghalang Abelardo (Main Theatre), FREE ADMISSION.
