twocolors, Safri Duo & Chris de Sarandy release new emotional dance anthem Head Above Water
Berlin-based production duo twocolors, Danish electronic icons Safri Duo, and rising British vocalist Chris de Sarandy reunite with “Head Above Water”, a soaring, emotional dance-pop anthem that balances euphoric energy with introspective weight. Built around Safri Duo’s signature live percussion and wrapped in twocolors’ sleek, high-impact production, the track pulses with urgency while delivering a message of resilience in the face of emotional overwhelm.
Chris de Sarandy brings the heart of the record to life with a soulful, vulnerable vocal that cuts through the rhythm-driven production. Their last collaboration, Cynical, became an eclipsed hit in 2023. Reimagining Safri Duo’s early-2000s anthem “Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song)”, the track resonated across generations & spent four weeks at #1 on the German Airplay Charts, generating over 283 million streams across platforms, and landing Top 40 on the Global Shazam Charts. It was one of the most successful radio singles of the year in multiple territories and marked a return to the spotlight for Safri Duo, whose percussion-forward sound has proven more relevant than ever.
twocolors have been steadily building a global footprint with remixes for Imagine Dragons, Shakira, Rammstein, Jessie J, Lost Frequencies, and more, alongside breakout originals like Lovefool (3.8B+ streams), “Bloodstream”, “Feel It 2”, and their darker, underground-leaning TC/TC EP series. In 2023 and 2024 alone, they racked up over 23 billion radio impressions and more than 900,000 radio plays, while stepping further into the live arena with performances at events like Slush Helsinki and Parookaville.
For Chris de Sarandy, Cynical was a major inflection point. The Berlin-based UK singer-songwriter followed it with the success of Magic Moment alongside Glockenbach (#2 airplay), his debut EP Know Your Worth, and singles like Rain and Hurts Like This. Known for his warm, conversational style and raw vocal delivery, de Sarandy has quickly established himself as a focal voice in the indie-pop and crossover dance space.
And for Safri Duo, Morten Friis and Uffe Savery, the renewed spotlight is a full-circle moment. Their hybrid of classical training and tribal-electronic rhythm made The Bongo Song a generational hit, soundtracking the 2000 Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, FIFA Football 2003, and remaining a club staple for more than two decades. Now, with twocolors helping reinterpret their legacy for a new era, they’re once again at the center of a sound that bridges rhythmic energy with pop appeal.
Head Above Water doesn’t try to repeat a formula but evolves it. It’s a moment of growth for all three artists and a track that hits just as hard in headphones as it does on a main stage. While they’re staying tight-lipped about what comes next, it’s clear this collaboration isn’t done yet.
twocolors x Safri Duo x Chris de Sarandy - Head Above Water is out now on VIRGIN RECORDS.
