Ending Hunger Together: A Day with Rise Against Hunger PH

Since my short but memorable stint in a non-government organization here in the Philippines, helping people have their own place, my volunteer heart has been in the look for something worthwhile helping not only people but our planet as well. And this year, I'm happy to share that I'm back to volunteering - thanks to Rise Against Hunger Philippines for reaching out and leading me this meaningful activity.

Rise Against Hunger is a global hunger relief organization, which has offices in five international locations including India, Malaysia, South Africa, Italy and the Philippines. It's vision is to have a world without hunger, guided by its mission, which is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-saving aid to the world's most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.

In the United States alone, Rise Against Hunger has 20 meal packaging locations to providing emergency food, medicine and other life-saving aid to people who are in life-threatening crisis situations.

In the Philippines, with the country ranking 29th in the world with a Global Hunger Index of 20.0 – serious problem (GHI 2017), Rise Against Hunger offers five programs to help those who are in need, including (1) Good Food Farm, (2) Soap for Hope, (3) Farm to Fork, (4) Policy and Advocacy and (5) Research.

Rise Against Hungers Philippines has been so active as well through its Feeding Program with its current campaign #2030isPossible, wherein they provide life-changing aid to utmost vulnerable women and children in various selected areas in the Philippines. Volunteers, including children 5 and up as well as people with special needs can participate to this volunteerism activity. Corporations, civic organizations, congregations, and schools can also organize Rise Against Hunger meal packaging events, where it usually requires 40 - 50 volunteers to pack 10,000 meals in about two hours. Each meal pack can feed 12 children and this meal pack only cost Php99.00.
