grentperez and UMI Get "close to you" On Dreamy New Collaboration

Breakout artist grentperez and singer-songwriter UMI come together for a dreamy new collaboration, “close to you”. Fans can listen to the song here.

At its core, “close to you” explores love as something that extends beyond a simple feeling — an energy that exists around us and influences the way we experience the world. The song reflects grentperez’s growing introspection as he considers the forces that shape his emotions, decisions, and relationships, with love emerging as one of the strongest influences in his life.

It was fitting, then, that grentperez crossed paths with UMI, whose own approach to spirituality and self-discovery resonated deeply with him. Having been a longtime fan of UMI’s music, grentperez finally had the opportunity to meet her when they were both booked to perform at the same college show earlier this year. Mustering up the courage to introduce himself, he pitched the idea of getting together in the studio and just a month later, the two found themselves working alongside producer MarcLo to bring “close to you” to life.

The result is a song that explores love and distance through the shared perspective of two artists who are deeply in tune with their emotions and the world around them. Their natural connection also extended into the recording process, with grentperez finding the studio session unexpectedly fun and effortless.

When asked about his first experience working with UMI, grentperez shared, “Fantastic, we honestly clicked which was great. Knowing that Umi is a pretty spiritual and free person, I felt comfy letting loose, cracking dumbass jokes and contemplating life. Contemplating life is always welcome with me”.

More than simply bringing two distinctive artists together, “close to you” reflects a shared understanding of love and the ways in which the world around us can shape our emotions. Through the collaboration, grentperez and UMI embrace the idea that there is a universe beyond ourselves — one that connects us all and deserves to be acknowledged and respected.
