Get Up to Speed with Wild Rounds: Pilipinas Open With the Latest Action on the Rift

Following an explosive opening split that set the stage for local competitive play, Riot Games’ hit mobile Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, League of Legends: Wild Rift, continues its competitive journey in the Philippines through Wild Rounds: Pilipinas Open, bringing together the latest action across its Splits and Road to SMASH: Creator Showmatch. 

The recently concluded Split 1 set the stage for flawless group stage runs and the rise of fan-favorite squads. The six-week run had Filipino players and fans witness strategic gameplay and intense rivalries throughout the 74-team split.

Riding that momentum, Wild Rift raised the stakes for Split 2, with 36 squads battling through the qualifiers to secure one of the 16 coveted spots in the group as the competition entered a pivotal turn towards the Road to SMASH 2026 in South Korea this November. Running parallel to the intense action is a highly anticipated Creator Showmatch on September 20, featuring some of Wild Rift's top creators—five of whom will represent the Philippines at the SMASH Finals in Korea.

Split 1 Recap: Dominant Sweeps and Fan Favorites
Split 1 saw several fan-favorite squads make strong runs in their respective groups, with Gensokyo and IIXWR sweeping their opponents in Group A and Group B, respectively. Peekaboo and Cubao Korea also delivered dominant performances, clearing their respective brackets without a loss.

As the tournament progressed, several standout players also emerged, drawing attention with impressive performances and statistics that showcased their impact on the Rift. 

Kuro has been a formidable force for Peekaboo, topping Split 1 with an impressive 12.2 KDA and a 72% kill participation rate across the split. Meanwhile, manila alinam anchored Cubao Korea’s near-perfect run, showcasing unparalleled consistency in the top lane with a 3.13 KDA and 38% kill participation rate. Not to be outdone, Karma shone during IIXWR’s clean Split 1 run, conquering the jungle with a 4.45 KDA and a 65% kill participation rate. 

Split 2: What’s Next on the Road to SMASH 2026
Split 2 officially kicked off its Group Stage on August 8, expanding the competition to 36 registered teams. Returning contenders include Cubao Korea, Gensokyo, IIXWR, and Bonus Round. 

The group stage matches immediately delivered high-octane action across the board, with powerhouse squads setting a blistering pace. In Group A, Gensokyo continued its undefeated run to claim the top spot at 3-0 (7 points), closely followed by Elder Dragon at 2-1 (6 points). Group B saw Split 1 standout IIXWR take total control with a flawless 3-0 record (9 points) ahead of Tempo at 2-1 (4 points), while Bonus Round asserted command over Group C with an unblemished 3-0 record (8 points), just ahead of UA1 Esports at 2-1 (6 points). 

However, one of the biggest highlights of the split so far is the competitive pro-player comeback of Rebengga—a former League of Legends PC pro for teams like Manila Eagles, Team Red, and Hey Gaming. Previously serving as a Wild Rift coach for Bren Esports (2021) and Fennel (2023), Rebengga made his long-awaited return to competitive play as a Jungler for Elder Dragon in Split 2. Alongside teammates Faemon, Yamada, Svante Flynt, and HachM, Rebengga has anchored Elder Dragon to a strong 2-1 record in Group A, keeping them firmly in playoff contention. 

While the August 9 games were postponed due to inclement weather, the weekly Group Stage matches will resume on the 15th, and run until the 30th. Stakes will be raised during the Qualifying Rounds on September 10-11, teasing what’s to come during the Playoffs happening from September 18-20. 

The Creator Showmatch: Where Creators Meet Fierce Competition
Adding a fresh layer of excitement to the Wild Rounds ecosystem is the Creator Showmatch, allowing Filipino content creators to show off their competitive side.  

Running alongside the main Wild Rounds tournament, this influencer-focused event is set to test one’s gaming strategy and creative problem-solving through a unique exhibition match.
Set to take place on September 20, right before the highly anticipated Road to SMASH Finals, the Creator Showmatch will feature a star-studded lineup of rising personalities and influencers in the gaming industry. Fans can look forward to an epic clash on the Rift as Shanghigh, Vannybear, Mirmooo, Christian Bautista, and RauxTV go head-to-head against the opposite team on the Rift composed of Kitz, Kioko, Suzzysaur, Eisendhart, and TitoSpicy. 

Wild Rift continues to up the ante for competitive play in the Philippines, giving both professional players and rising content creators a stage to prove themselves.
