A song about running away—and finding yourself
Serving as the first chapter of mikah’s new three-part “Homesick” project, the first instalment of the project titled “Escape” captures the emotional push and pull between the desire to chase dreams and the ache of leaving home behind.
With its delicate vocals and evocative lyrics, the song blends the rhythmic warmth of R&B, the shimmering clarity of indie pop, and the raw edge of alternative rock — a natural evolution from his hit “so I don’t forget,” but with a wider, more cinematic sound.
The repeated lyric “Can I escape, is it too late” embodies the universal conflict between comfort and change — between the urge to break free and the fear of what lies beyond. Another poignant line, “I’m at home sick and I’m sick of it,” turns the word homesick on its head, expressing both nostalgia and frustration. It’s a confession many who’ve left home will and can relate to.
The music video, filmed entirely on film stock with a French creative team, was shot in the quiet forests and minimalist houses of Yamanashi, Japan. Starring mikah’s real childhood friends, the video’s candid smiles and laughter give the visuals a natural warmth. “The scenes of us playing soccer show my truest self,” mikah shares. “That laugh was real — that was me.” The result feels like a short film — serene, emotional, and subtly hinting at what’s to come in the next chapters of “Homesick”.
Following his recent appearance at JOOX TOP MUSIC NIGHT this month, mikah will be returning to Bangkok on November 1 for his performance at Monster Music Festival, marking his second stage in the city in just two months.
With “Escape,” mikah continues to share his personal journey through music — translating his experiences of distance, growth, and self-discovery into songs that resonate with listeners everywhere.
