Cloverdale introduces Channel 303
Cloverdale has arrived with his highly anticipated Channel 303 project. Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Alex Walsh aka Cloverdale kicks off his new era with the release of the intro single, 100k Watts. A high-voltage anthem that after five years of meticulous crafting, tweaking, and perfecting, comes as the ultimate introduction to Cloverdale’s most ambitious project to date.
100k Watts is exactly how it sounds... pure energy bottled up into electric current and shot into your earholes. - Cloverdale
Cloverdale has spent the last few years bending genres from techno, house, breaks, and UKG with the utmost production prowess. The release of 100k Watts sets the tone for Channel 303, an immersive project that combines a concept album with a live audiovisual experience.
Channel 303 represents Cloverdale’s complete departure from his previous DJ sets. Moving away from traditional performances that rely on pre-made tracks, Cloverdale now performs live using synths, drum machines, and visuals all designed by him. A DIY audiovisual journey inspired by late-night retro TV, early rave culture, and analog grit.
The original concept (a much darker, 125bpm groover) was born during the pandemic while I was still living in the basement on Cloverdale Rd. It was written specifically as an intro track, setting the tone for what's to come. The vocal was something I felt embodied the high octane ethos and thus was a tune I really wanted to get perfect. It sat on my hard drive unfinished and untouched for years yet always looming in the back of my mind as something that would eventually get finished. When the idea for Channel 303 started to form in my head, I knew I already had my intro track ready to go. It was the perfect time to finally dust off this beloved gem. I punched up the tempo, beefed up the drums, added some stabs and it was done. Pure high octane to kick off the whole 303 journey. - Cloverdale
For Cloverdale, this new shift was necessary. After years of releasing tech house records, he felt the genre had become oversaturated and uninspired. Prompting a change, he sought new musical territories by embracing Techno, Breakbeat, and UK Garage. Genres that allowed him to express himself without limits. However, it all really began in 2005 when Cloverdale first got his hands on Photoshop, an app that opened the door to a rabbit hole of video software, animation, web design, and eventually, music production.
For those unfamiliar with Cloverdale’s work, Cloverdale had become a leader in high-octane dance music. Over the years, he performed at premiere events and venues like EDC Las Vegas, The Brooklyn Mirage, Mission Ballroom, Webster Hall, Hollywood Palladium, and Exchange LA gaining the support of industry legends like John Summit, Tiësto, Deadmau5, James Hype, and Diplo, to name a few.
But by 2023, Cloverdale had grown tired of chasing trends and the “soulless” tech house tracks that had flooded the scene. He then switched gears and reconnected with longtime friend and producer Daniel James (JADEY). Together, they began creating music that reflected their shared love for raw, unfiltered dance music. The two blended hardware-based techno and breaks to craft a sound that felt authentic and powerful and it was this creative freedom that became a revelation for Cloverdale as moving away from CDJ’s allowed them to create something real.
After their live debut at Vibrancy Fest, the fire was lit for Channel 303. With an Ableton Push in hand and a renewed love for After Effects, Cloverdale began crafting a DIY live show that breaks all the rules. The result? Channel 303, a boundary-pushing concept album meets live experience, blending vintage CRT TVs, holograms, and synchronised lighting to bring Cloverdale’s music to life in a way that’s never been done before. It’s not just about sound as it is a statement: stop following trends and start creating art that lasts.
Leading.. 100k Watts; raw, relentless, and high-octane. And hitting all streaming platforms on 4th July, it lays the foundation for Channel 303, a project that unapologetically fuses music, visuals, and technology into an all-encompassing, DIY performance experience - the beginning of a new chapter in Cloverdale’s artistic journey.
