Rainy season in the
Philippines is often associated with some adverse weather conditions that may
impact airport and airline operations. To ensure worry-free travels during
these months, AirAsia Philippines shares tips among guests to properly manage
expectations and take advantage of lower travel costs during the off peak
season.
During adverse weather associated with the rainy season, guests may expect weather related disruptions on the roads and in the air. In 2024 alone, the AirAsia Philippines' Operations Control Center (OCC) monitored 23 Lightning Red Alerts (LRA), which caused temporary suspension of ground movement activities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Heavy rainfall may contribute to traffic congestion on roads leading to the airport. Consequently, guests are advised to allot extra hours to the usual 2 hours for domestic and 3 hours for international flights to facilitate smooth check-in and boarding procedures.
However the benefit for bargain seekers is typically lower airfares, cheaper accommodation and activities associated with the off peak travel season.
“As the rainy season begins, we ask our guests to plan ahead and exercise patience when disruptions like weather, outside of the airline’s control, happen. At AirAsia we will always put a premium on crew and passenger safety. However, traveling during the rainy season, from June to September, also presents some great value opportunities. It is during these “lean season” months that airfares are low and hotel rates drop---ideal for budget travelers

make purposeful journeys as enjoyable as ever:
It pays to install weather apps for timely forecasts. Destinations such as Bohol often experience less rainy and sunnier weather compared to other domestic spots during the rainy season. Hence, be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing, and bring essential medications, especially when traveling to cooler or wetter regions.
EXPLORE INDOOR ACTIVITIES
When outside conditions become gloomy, museums, indoor theme parks and other relaxation activities can spell unique experiences.
Indulge in comfort food to warm your heart and satisfy your taste buds. Pancit molo, chicken binakol and bachoy are just some of Bacolod, Iloilo and Roxas’ must-try rainy season food treats.
