HUAWEI Powers MPT DriveHub Cycling Team to Victory at ‘The Great Revival: Tour of Luzon’
HUAWEI furthers its commitment to build
healthier communities through innovation with its partnership with Metro
Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) for the ‘The Great Revival: Tour of Luzon.’
After an exhilarating, 8-day cycling race, which started last April 23 in Paoay
and concluded last May 1 at Camp John Hay in Baguio, the MPT DriveHub Cycling
Team emerged as the overall winner at the historic event.
More than a revival of Asia’s longest cycling
events, the Tour of Luzon served as a rallying point for athletic excellence,
holistic wellness, and cultural celebration.
Glory
on the Great Revival
A total of 13 local and 4 international
cycling teams competed in the multi-stage race, covering 7 provinces across
Northern and Central Luzon. Spanning 1,074.90 kilometers over 8 days, the event
showcased exceptional talent, endurance, and sportsmanship from both Philippine
and international athletes.
Emerging as the overall team champion was MPT
DriveHub Cycling Team, securing the Perpetual Trophy and taking home the PHP 1
million cash prize. MPT DriveHub Cycling Team’s Mervin Corpuz expressed pride
in their team’s performance, highlighting the combined effort that led to their
victory, saying, “We’re very happy. Every one from the team gave it our all.
It’s really the whole team’s effort that brought us here.”
Dae Yeong Joo of Gapyeong Cycling Team was
named the Individual Champion, receiving a uniquely designed trophy, PHP 1
million cash prize, and an exclusive all-expenses paid 3-day, 2-night Suite
stay at Camp John Hay Hotels by Landco Lifestyle Ventures. Joshua Pascual of
Excellent Noodles Cycling Team earned the coveted ‘Eagle of the Mountain’ title
for dominating the final uphill stage in Baguio City, earning a commemorative
trophy and podium jersey. James Escumbien of Go for Gold was awarded as ‘The
Best Young Rider’ during the race. MPT DriveHub Cycling Team’s very own Mervin
Corpuz was given the title of ‘Sprint King’. Malaysia Pro Cycling’s Muhammad
Zahin Wahihi earned the title of ‘Most Combative Rider’.

Smarter with the HUAWEI Watch GT 5 Series
During the race, MPT DriveHub Cycling Team
partnered with HUAWEI, which helped them deliver a strong performance powered
by the innovative HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series. The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 supports over
100 sports and workout modes that include basketball, swimming, paddling,
running, and cycling. The Cycling feature on the smartwatch allowed the MPT
DriveHub Cycling Team to see real-time insights on heart rate, cadence,
calories burned, and speed, which enabled the cyclists to manage their exertion
efficiently throughout each stage.
According to Mervin Corpuz, the MPT DriveHub
Cycling Team found the real-time cycling performance and health insights from
the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series helpful. “It allowed us to pace ourselves across
each stage,” he said.
The HUAWEI TruSense System allowed the HUAWEI
WATCH GT 5 to deliver next-level health, fitness, and emotional wellbeing
tracking. Its Sunflower Positioning System allowed the smartwatch to deliver
precise GPS tracking with full-color route navigation, helping the cyclists
stay on course throughout varied, challenging terrain. “The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5
Series’ helped us navigate our trail better,” remarked Corpuz. “We were able to
really focus on our performance.”
The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 also delivered on
battery life for the long 8-day race. The smartwatch offers up to 14 days of
battery life on a single charge, ensuring uninterrupted performance even during
extended use. “I was impressed by the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series’ battery life.
We were able to use the smartwatch throughout the race without interruption,”
claimed Corpuz.
“It was an honor to lead the team. I’m proud
and thankful that we gave our best till the last leg,” shared Corpuz on the
team’s experience during the tour.
