CCP Presents ‘Luminaries and Legacies’ Exhibit
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presents
Luminaries and Legacies: CCP Gawad Para sa Sining 2024 & Other CCP
Institutional Awards, a week-long exhibition, slated to open on September 20,
2024, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati.
The Luminaries and Legacies exhibit celebrates
the CCP’s role as a leading institution in honoring exceptional achievements in
the arts. The exhibit is thoughtfully divided into two sections. The first
section highlights the 2024 CCP Gawad Para sa Sining awardees, while the second
focuses on other prestigious CCP institutional awards.
The CCP Gawad Para sa Sining is the highest
honor bestowed by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, recognizing Filipino
artists and cultural workers who have made significant contributions to their
fields.
The Gawad CCP Exhibit Section will showcase
selected works from the 2024 honorees, including Jose Iñigo Homer “Joey” Ayala,
Generoso “Gener” Caringal, Mike de Leon, Marilyn Gamboa, Gino Gonzales, Pete
Lacaba Jr., the Loboc Children’s Choir, Julie Lluch, Mario O’Hara, and Lea
Salonga. The section will also feature posthumous tributes to Sen. Edgardo J.
Angara and former CCP Trustee Zenaida “Nedy” R. Tantoco.
The second section will present a curated
display of trophies awarded by the CCP from 1970 to the present. These
trophies, crafted by renowned Filipino visual artists — many of whom are CCP
Thirteen Artists Awardees — are not only symbols of achievement but also
significant works of art. Notable designs include those by National Artists
Napoleon Abueva, Abdulmari Imao, Arturo Luz, as well as Juan Alcazaren, Agnes Arellano,
Eduardo Castrillo, Charlie Co, Louie Cordero, Peter de Guzman, Leo Gerardo
Leonardo, Leeroy New. Impy Pilapil, Dan Raralio, Solomon Saprid, Mac Valdezco,
and Eric Zamuco.
The Luminaries and Legacies exhibit aims to
deepen the audience’s appreciation of the artistic contributions and the
lasting impact of both the awardees and the CCP on the cultural landscape of
the Philippines.
The exhibition opens on September 20, 2024, at
5:30 p.m., and will be on view at the Jaime Zobel Sr. Hall, 5th floor of the
Samsung Performing Arts Theater at Circuit Makati, until September 27, 2024.
