Chris James Songwriter Behind BTS Chart-topping Hit Reveals Latest Single "Sugar"

Coming off a sold-out six-show tour, chart-topping artist and songwriter Chris James is mesmerising his fans with the release of his latest single, "Sugar".

Boasting an impressive track record, including co-writing the RIAA Gold-certified Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit "Life Goes On" by the South Korean mega boyband BTS for their album 'Be', James has amassed a total of 1.7 billion Spotify streams from his collective works. As a result, established himself as a name to watch in recent years.

With his raw vocals, funky-pop production, and instant melodies, “Sugar” is a delightful bedroom pop anthem poised to resonate with audiences worldwide. From its inception to its final mix, James' fingerprints are evident on every aspect of this track. Kicking off with the pre-chorus and hook, listeners are instantly enveloped in its addictive sweetness, making for an irresistible auditory experience.

The song paints a vivid narrative of self-awareness, introspection, and the sweetness found in life's simpler moments. Lines like "All of my senses screaming, I should better let it slide" and "Nothing hits harder than the sunshine after rainy skies" convey the internal battles one faces, while the repeated proclamation "The air it tastes like sugar" offers a sense of realisation and appreciation for life's fleeting moments of joy.

Speaking about the song, he explains: “I was going through a little creative rough patch while I was trying to crack "Sugar". It‘s funny cause the song itself is really about the feeling you have when coming out of a situation like this and you finally get to breathe again, so in a way, the song's theme reflects the journey to making it.”

Throughout the song, James addresses common struggles like overthinking, seeking external validation, and navigating challenges, but it's his astute self-awareness that shines, culminating in a recognition that sometimes life, with all its intricacies, can taste as sweet as sugar.

Musically, the track's bedroom pop aesthetic, combined with its catchy melodies, ensures "Sugar" remains an earworm, highlighting James' prowess both as a songwriter and producer.

In January 2024, as he pivots towards the next phase of his career, Chris James is set to captivate audiences with a series of performances in his home country, Germany. Driven by his top streaming countries in this region, including #2 ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Malaysia, #3 ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Philippines, #6 ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Indonesia, and #8 ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Thailand, James is planning to also embark on a tour across Asia, with stops in the Philippines, India, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
