Cebu's Coloura Releases New EP, Love and Influence

Cebu-based electro/indie newcomer Coloura marks a triumphant venture into crossover territory with the release of their new EP, Love and Influence.

The mini-album serves a follow-up to the underrated debut release, In Between, which debuted in 2022.

Released under acclaimed indie label, Melt Records, the synth-heavy, pop-leaning EP reveals a more mature work that isn’t afraid to tackle their more vulnerable side as far as songwriting chops are concerned.

Coloura shares in a press statement that the EP covers themes that range from obsession to self-love, romantic expression to acceptance. Vocalist and guitarist Jake Relacion penned most of the lyrics on Love and Influence, while their bassist Robert Lim was responsible for the hook and chorus of “Ecstasy,” the lead single off the 5-track EP.

“Ecstasy” explores the intense and almost trance-like emotions that one has to endure when infatuated with someone. According to Jake, the song was inspired by a first-hand romantic experience in the past. "I was trying to reminisce about the feeling of being overly in love with someone."

Other songs in the EP include “I’ll Be Yours (Forever),” “Never Been Better,” “Tendencies,” and “Happy.”

“Recording this EP was really fun for us and it is one of our most collaborative works as well,” the fast-rising band said. “We got Peter Cambonga (Sansette) to play saxophone for us and Diane Tungol (Alice Who) who sang backup vocals in ‘I’ll Be Yours (Forever).’ In the production aspect, it was our first time to incorporate this crowd-like chant type of backup vocals in some of our songs. It was just really fun.”

Coloura’s 5-track EP, Love and Influence is out now on all digital/streaming platforms worldwide via Melt Records.
