Holliday Howe Releases New Song "Thelma & Louise Pt. II"

Sydney-based hyperpop producer & singer-songwriter Holliday Howe (she/her or they/them) releases the next single from her upcoming debut mixtape My Friends Live In My Pocket on Friday 18th November, fresh from the release of October single 2000 feat. diana starshine & hot on the heels of an acclaimed set of showcases at BIGSOUND 2022. The track, “Thelma & Louise Pt. II” finds Holliday ruminating on a friendship ruptured by her own actions. The whole mixtape My Friends Live In My Pocket follows next Friday 25th November, before Holliday performs at Sydney EMC’s Emerging Artist Showcase on Tuesday 29th November.

Describing the track, Holliday says, “Thelma & Louise Pt. II was the final song written for the mixtape. A lot of the songs I already had on it were focused on people who had been good friends or bad friends, and I hadn’t tackled writing about how I might’ve been a bad friend too. This situation came up where I really felt like the bad guy, caught between following my happiness and someone else’s feelings. I wrote Thelma & Louise Pt. II to really try and understand my guilt and also to say like ‘hey, it’s ok to be mad at me, I understand why.’ Friendships are so complicated and it was important for me to share some personal flaws.”

My Friends Live In My Pocket is Holliday’s debut mixtape, born out of a sudden move across the world from London to Sydney. It’s both an ode to the friendships we make and sustain online, as well as a farewell to the ones that disintegrate with distance. Holliday says “I moved to London when I was 18 and had no plans to move back to Sydney - until the pandemic pushed me to. Suddenly it became clear which friendships would flourish online and which ones were ultimately meant to fail. With us all being in lockdown and forced to mainly connect in the digital world, I think a lot of people started to see who their ride-or-dies were, and who weren’t. My Friends Live in My Pocket is me saying “I love you” to people I’ve never met irl and saying “get lost” to people who have disconnected.”
