UNIQLO to Launch Fall/Winter 2021 Collaboration Line with Musée du Louvre

Global apparel retailer UNIQLO today announces the launch of its Fall/Winter 2021 collaboration line with Musée du Louvre. This collection continues the successful and popular concept of expressing historical masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Winged Victory of Samothrace, with sophisticated graphics characteristic of UT (UNIQLO T-shirt). The collection will be available from October 4 at UNIQLO Online Store uniqlo.com/ph or UNIQLO App, and available in All Stores starting October 11.

Partnership between UNIQLO and Musée du Louvre

UNIQLO concluded a four-year partnership agreement with Musée du Louvre earlier this year, conducting various initiatives that allow people around the world to feel more closely connected to art. The first UT collection, featuring motifs based on historical masterpieces from the museum, was launched in February, and in May UNIQLO began supporting the "Mini Discovery Tour," an educational program launched by the Museum in July 2020. The new UNIQLO RIVOLI store opening on September 16 will also hold special exhibits and workshops in collaboration with the Louvre, providing visitors with the opportunity to easily engage with art in the store.

Tote bags added to the lineup

The Women's line features graphics that highlight the delicacy and splendor of the masterpieces. Works such as Grande Odalisque, an oil painting by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, and the Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss sculpture featured in the previous Men's collection, have been arranged with a collage of floral motifs and elevated as new art. The Men's line designed by Peter Saville, the prominent English graphic artist who designed the first men collection, focuses on three works: Mona Lisa, Winged Victor of Samothrace, and Venus de Milo. Highlighting such elements as the inventory numbers assigned to the pieces, he has created graphics with a distinctive wit. Along with UT and sweats, the lineup introduces tote bags in four designs to color everyday life with your favorite art.

About the Partnership with the Louvre

UNIQLO concluded a four-year sponsorship agreement with Musée du Louvre in January 2021. In addition to continually offering the UT collaboration collection, as part of the partnership UNIQLO is sponsoring a number of activities at the Louvre for the general public. One is the "Mini Discovery Tour," an educational program conducted every Wednesday and on weekends, where dedicated staff stationed throughout the building explain the works from a unique perspective to children and visitors unfamiliar with art. Additional programs and events will be launched for people to feel more closely connected to art and announced at a later date.

About Peter Saville

Graphic artist Peter Saville co-founded the independent U.K. label Factory Records, reaching a wide audience through pop music by famously creating a series of record sleeves for Joy Division and New Order. He has been extensively involved in the fashion world as well, producing logos and artwork for many well-known brands. In 2020, he received the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of more than 40 years of achievements.

About Inventory Numbers

The inventory numbers that Peter Saville features are essential for museums to identify the works in their collections. The Louvre's inventory numbers remain in various formats, including organized in a record book, as well as affixed directly to the work itself with a label, stamp, or pencil. These marks are clues to better understand the chain of ownership and the history of the artwork.
