A Salute to All of Nation's Heroes at Nuvali

Every year, Filipino soldiers are killed or incapacitated in line of duty, and because of this, many families were left with basically nothing. That's why through the good hearts of the late President Corazon C. Aquino with then Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Renato de Villa, an organization called Help, Educate and Rear Orphans or HERO was created to take care of the families left by our soldiers who were killed incapacitated.

HERO Foundation has been in existence for the past 24 years and has never waned in its commitment to provide educational assistance to the orphans of men in uniform. The HERO Foundation’s advocacy of supporting the education of military orphans is very close to a number of celebrities and TV personalities who've seen - and some of them experienced - the life that these families have suffered, that's why on this year's National Heroes' Day, through the generous help of NUVALI and San Miguel Corporation, a heroic concert was held to give these families a break from the drama and to enjoy a night of good music.

Dubbed as "Saludo: A Concert for Heroes", the concert was held last November 30, 2012 at the NUVALI Evoliving Center dockside with performances by 6CycleMind, IyaVillania, Nina and Bamboo.

Organized by ALV Productions and co-presented by San Miguel Corporation and NUVALI, the admission is FREE but spectators were asked to drop by at the HERO's booth to donate Php50.00 to the foundation. Proceeds of the concert would help send to school hundreds of orphans of Filipino soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the fulfillment of their constitutional duty as protectors of our nation.

The Php50.00 donation entitled every spectator a guaranteed seat to the concert (Guaranteed seats section), and gave them a chance to win HERO shirts, autographed merchandise and backstage passes to meet and greet the performing artists.

The night was opened by 6cyclemind, who set the mood for some hard-rockin Pinoy music, the followed by a sultry dance number from Iya Villania that showed her amazing talent on gymnast, dance and aerobics.

Then Nina serenaded everyone with her hits that made everyone sung along, and the highlight of the night was the number from Bamboo, who never fail to amaze everyone.

Apart from these artists, ABS-CBN personalities such as Ces Drilon, Piolo Pascual, Billy Crawford, Nikki Gil, Sheila Valderama, Kris Lawrence, Bullrunner’s Jaymie Pizzaro and Laguna Governor ER Ejercito, who graced the event also serve as HERO Foundation’s ambassadors to create public awareness and spread the foundation’s advocacy.

HERO Foundation’s mission is to provide educational assistance in the form of stipends to children Filipino soldiers killed in action (KIA), or totally incapacitated due to combat action. To date, 2,261 scholars are benefiting from the Foundation, 888 of whom already graduated from college and are now successful in their chosen fields as engineers, nurses, doctors, flight attendants, police, soldiers, among others.

The Foundation is presently headed by businessman-philanthropist Fernando Zobel de Ayala as the Chairman of its Board of Trustees.

It doesn't take much to be a HERO to the orphans of our fallen soldiers. This can be our chance to give back to our unsung heroes. Let us make our soldiers know and feel that we truly care. The HERO Foundation invites each one of us to work with them to ensure that the children our soldiers may leave behind will still be given the chance to achieve their dreams. Let us be heroes to the children of our heroes.
