Domex Promotes Proper Sanitation with World Toilet Day

In its effort to promote sanitation among homes, school and hospitals, Domex with its mother company  Unilever, through their Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, held last November 17 the country's World Toilet Day.

Aiming to improve the health and well-being of 1 billion people by 2020, under the Billion Better Lives campaign of Unilever, World Toilet Day is celebrated to deliver sustainable sanitation in the Philippine, by educating people about how diseases and even deaths can be prevented through proper sanitation.

And with the support coming from UNICEF and Philippine Public Health Association (PPHA),  an educational program to be rolled out across different public hospitals in Metro Manila was shared to a number of invited guests at San Lazaro Hospital including proper bathroom sanitation.

The brand aims to lead the movement to solve the country’s sanitation issues starting with government-owned facilities targeting treatment of communicable diseases. This initiative was first launched at Manila City and will be sustained through 2013. Manila City Mayor Alfredo S. Lim was one of the key persons invited to take part on this great cause.

World Toilet Day, which is said to be observed annually every 19th of November, and it aims to put a spotlight on the 2.5 billion people across the globe who do not have access to clean, private and functional toilets, as bacteria is known to thrive in environments with greater moisture levels, toilets become easy breeding grounds for these harmful microorganisms.

For more than a decade now, World Toilet Day has been a crucial platform to inspire action among various government and non-government sectors in advocating for properly sanitized lavatories. In the Philippines, the problem is prevalent in public areas, particularly in schools and hospitals with communal toilet setups. That's why this year’s World Toilet Day has mobilized UNICEF and the Philippine Public Health Association to join the cause.

Unilever Brand Marketing Manager

Unilever Brand Marketing Manager, Jay Go, told that Domex will play a huge role in making this a reality. The product, with its thick bleach formulation, is ideal in keeping the toilet germ-free, drastically reducing the risk of virus contamination thus preventing people from contracting illnesses like influenza, diarrhea, and hepatitis.

Unilever is committed to improve the health and well-being of 1 billion people globally by 2020 through their Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, and through its Billion Better Lives campaign. By promoting proper sanitation, such diseases will be prevented. And by having World Toilet Day every year, every one will be reminded to be always vigilant to their surrounding's cleanliness.

Mabuhay kayo, Unilever!
