Taste the dream at O’Sonho

If there’s a cuisine in the world that we can say resembles to our own Filipino cuisine, that’ll be the European cuisine. But, as well know, European cuisine is still divided into a lot of parts that really made the whole of Europe a haven when it comes to art of food. And one of the cuisines that really stands out and world –renowned is the Portuguese cuisine.

Famous from their simple ingredient but very distinct taste, did you know that you can have an intimate Portuguese dining experience here in Metro Manila. Eastwood Mall is very proud to say that O’sonho is now open!

O’sonho which means “The Dream” is the latest offering of Eastwood Mall in Libis, Quezon City.

And last night, I had a great experience dining at this very new place. *wink*

The prices are not that bad given the quality and quantity of food they serve.

The first dish that we had, and second of my favourite dish for that night, the Picado.
An appetizer that will really set you on the mood to feel “The Dream”.

 Picado – Php300.00

This reminds me of the taste of my late grandma’s Kaldereta, but this one, well, obviously not a kaldereta has a unique Portuguese feel with a lot of Filipino fusion. I just liked it whether have it alone or with a rice, this one was really loved by my palette.

The nest dish that we had, a pasta dish or “massa” in Portuguese, the Peri Peri Chicken Pasta.

Peri Peri Chicken Pasta – Php310.00

This a perfect dish to start off an amazing dinner because it was light and very appetizing at one point. The blending of flavours was nice and favourable to my taste. Though, may taste a little salty to some because of the Peri Peri Chicken, I guess it’ll better to advice the chef about your preferred saltiness.

Our next dish and our main course, the Paella De Frutos Do Mar – Seafood Paella.

Paella De Frutos Do Mar – Seafood Paella – Php460.00

I love paella, and I like my paella spicy. This paella that they served to us used cumin and saffron which gave a curry-ish aroma. The aroma may fool you that this one is spicy but it’s not. And though, I didn’t like it that much, the quality of the seafood that they had in here was good and made to perfection. Maybe I can ask the chef to add a little spice on it next time, that way I can appreciate it more and not just be fooled by the curry-like aroma.

The next dish that we tried, and since we all loved their Peri Peri Chicken Pasta was the Whole Roast Peri Peri Chicken.

Whole Roast Peri Peri Chicken – Php720.00

I know some of you may find it too expensive for a whole roast chicken but I can assure you that, sharing this with 3 to 5 persons, you will never forget this one because it has a distinct aroma and flavour that will stick to your palette and to your breath. I just love how that spiciness and the saltiness of this dish blended very well that it almost took off that natural oily taste of chickens. This is actually one of my favourites that night.

And for our second to last dish on our main course was the intriguing Chourico Sisig.

Chourico Sisig – Php210.00

I always admire how foreign cuisines bravely take their chance of reinventing our all-time favourite dishes. And with this O’sonho’s take on our Sisig, I’d say that they gave justice to one of favourite dishes. The nice blend of the crispy pork topped with chicharon was good. And I think that their sisig can be matched to Dencio’s or Gerry’s Grill’s sisigs.

And our last dish that night was their kinda "set meal", the Coffee Marinated Roast Pork.

Coffee Marinated Roast Pork - Php420.00

If there's one dish that you've got to try from this side of the world, this is the dish that will give you the right value for your money. You will not put your utensils down when you have this dish, really. The sweet herbed whipped potatoes balanced the mouth-watering succulent and juicy roast pork bathed in a delicious coffee marinade. Muito deliciosa!

And since we’re all done with our appetizer, pasta and main course dishes, the night wouldn’t be complete without tasting their delectable desserts and luscious drinks.

I had the Strawberry Banana for my drinks.

Strawberry Banana – Php130.00

It was good. I liked it. All fresh and blended very smoothly.

And for our dessert, they offered us two cakes. The first one was the Chocolate Cake and the Almond Sansrival.

Chocolate Cake – Php220.00

 Almond Sansrival – Php220.00

And if you know me, you already know which one I picked, right? Yeah, the chocolate of course! And no exaggeration to this, IT WAS HEAVEN! This chocolate cake ended this wonderful journey at Portugal through their sumptuous meals really, really great.

So, if you are craving for some European or Mediterranean or simply Portuguese cuisine, you already this new place that offers you to taste “the dream” – O’sonho!
