Search for the Next Design Star

CLC Marketing Ventures Corporation (CLCMV) has established itself as a successful manufacturer, importer and distributor of quality furniture and pioneer producer of locally designed and manufactured sofabeds for the past three decades.

With more than 30 years of doing business, CLCMV manufactures and markets a wide variety of furniture products related to home and office interiors, hotel-restaurant indoor and outdoor furnishings, and infant furniture.

This year, it embarks on another journey that will help seek out and discover the next great Philippine furniture design talent. This advocacy of CLCMV aims to elevate the Philippine furniture design industry to even greater heights through the CLCMV Collegiate Sofabed Design Competition 2016.

Talent seem to abound in the Philippine design industry yet are still untapped. Through this esteemed competition, CLCMV hopes to draw out into the open and hone the exceptional creativity and skills of young Filipino design students. “The competition will allow students to explore and develop their creativity and passion for design by broadening their experience and knowledge on production and to give them the chance to see their design concepts come alive,” declares Carla Leonor, Chair and Interior Design Consultant of CLC Marketing Ventures Corporation.

This creative showcase is an endeavor that CLCMV will hold for the first time, and Leonor’s idea is to give the participants the freedom to create a sofabed design concept of their own. She adds, however, that the designs should be intended for compact living spaces like condominiums, hotel rooms, apartments and the like. Additional functional features or furniture extensions are also positively encouraged.

Industrial Design and Interior Design students from 5 schools such as the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID), University of the Philippines (UP), College of St. Benilde-School of Design and Arts (CSB-SDA), University of Sto. Tomas (UST) SoFA Design Institute (SoFa) have already confirmed their participation. In a few years’ time, the organizers hope to spread its wings and seek out other talent, particularly in the other regions, by holding the competition nationwide.

“We’re still in the ‘incubation period’ for this competition this year so CLCMV is limiting the number of participants in order to provide a superior experience to them and at the same time pinpoint areas that will need improvement so we can provide a bigger and better program in the years ahead. Definitely, we envision this competition to grow to a nationwide scale to recognize other young creative talents as part of CLCMV’s support to the growth of our country’s furniture Industry.”

Exciting prizes await the participating students of the CLCMV Collegiate Sofabed Design Competition 2016. A total of P50,000 cash, plaque, royalty from sales and gift certificates await the first place winner, while P30,000 and P20,000 in cash, plaque and gift certificates will be awarded to the 2nd and 3rd place winners in the competition, respectively.

By embarking on this design competition on the grassroots level, Leonor believes it is high time to support, nurture and develop young local design talents that can compete globally in the future.

“The current crop of Filipino designers is known to be competitive in the global scene. That is why it is important to support young local talents because as our country has been dubbed as the ‘Milan of Asia.’ It is imperative that we help nourish and hone their creativity and skills by upgrading their design education through exposure and early introduction to product development and basic manufacturing. These, in turn, will provide them with strong foundational skills that will support them as they compete globally.”
