Kenneth Cobonpue Launches First Light

"The lamps are a way for me to merge what I love to do with what I want to do for my fellow Filipinos," said Kenneth Cobonpue. "Especially in light of what has happened to the Philippines, I feel that this is the time for our countrymen to step up and become more engaged in helping other people."

I had this rare chance a few days ago to be one of the first few people to see the latest piece of the world-renowned furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue. With Habitat for Humanity Philippines Youth Council behind the project - basically to raise money to help our fellows in Central Philippines who were devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda, local name), "First Light" was launched.

In true holiday spirit, the Habitat Youth Council (HYC)'s Alex Eduque (Founder and Chairperson), Simon Tantoco (Co-President), Jasmin Tan Ho (Co-President), Steffi Del Rosario (Vice-President), Vito Puyat, Seth Hiranand and KC Keppler teammed up with multi-awarded furniture designer and manufacturer Cobonpue to create a limited edition centerpiece that will benefit underprivileged communities devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.

And last November 29, together with Habitat for Humanity Philippines CEO and Managing Director Charlie Ayco, Ayala Corporation COO and President Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Simon Tantoco, Alex Edque and Kenneth Cobonpue, the "First Light" was lighted at the KENNETHCOBONPUE showroom in Makati.

For the top designer, Habitat for Humanity Philippines has given him the perfect avenue to use his craft for the benefit of the underprivileged and to get more people involved and sympathetic to the plight of others.

All proceeds generated from the sale of the "First Light" will go towards the Re-Build Philippines project of Habitat for Humanity Philippines, which aims to help the typhoon-stricken areas in the Central Philippines.
