Pentax and My First Photo Contest Win!

I was invited last week to attend the launching of Pentax - a camera brand that is currently getting back in the market with their latest and coolest styles and designs. Since I'm into taking pictures lately, I graced the event and had a look at the latest offerings of Pentax.

Held at Anabel's Restaurant in Quezon City, I was welcomed by a vast set of wonderfully-looking gadgets that added more nice color to the beautiful venue. We were allowed to touch and try it, so without any hesitations, I started my "Pentax camera exploration"  from their most affordable one.

Pentax RS1000 - Php5,990.00

Pentax RS1500 - Php5,990.00

According to their staff that accompanied me, the only difference of RS1000 to RS1500 is its interchangeable face plates or skins. In every purchase of RS1000, 3 face plates that comes with it. I find this unit so fashionable, young and really cool. The skins will definitely personalized your camera.

Also on display is this neo classic-styled camera that I find sooooo nice! It's vintage-y case, which is made of metal and leather is really fantastic!

Optio I-10 - Php7,990.00

For a higher-end compact digital camera, there's the glossy-finished Optio S1 and for a more up close and personal  appeal, there's the Optio RZ10.

Optio S1 - Php8,990.00

Optio RZ10 - Php11,990

Optio S1 comes in three colors, black, green and chrome. It is a 14-megapixel camera, has a 5-times optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, capable of capturing 720p HD movie with a 1280-by-720 resolution, has a sensor-shift shake reduction and an HDR Capture. On the other hand, Optio RZ10 is available in five colors, purple, red, black,  white and lime. It is a 14-megapixel camera with a wide angle 10 times optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, capable of capturing 720p HD movie with a 1280-by-720 resolution, has a sensor-shift shake reduction and automatic shooting mode.

As for those who are into water sports or into underwater activities, Pentax has two models that are perfect for those hobbies, the Optio WG-1 and Optio WG-1GPS.

Optio WG-1 - Php19,990.00
Optio WG-1 GPS - Php21,990.00

Both cameras has an almost the same features. Both can go as deep as 33 feet, 14-megapixel camera, has a wide angle 5 times optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, can capture a 720p 1280-by-720 resolution HD movie, has a digital microscope mode and both are water proof, cold proof, shock proof, crash proof and dust proof. The only edge of Optio WG-1 GPS is its GPS Function that will help you navigate. But, the downside that I got to know about Optio WG-1 GPS is that its GPS Function works only above sea level and in an open space.

For a more edgy camera, Pentax also released X90 for those high-speed 11fps continuous shooting.

X90 - Php21,990.00

Compared to the other Optio cameras, X90 is only a 12.1-megapixel camera. But it has a wide angle 26 times optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, can capture a 720p 1280-by-720 resolution HD movie, has a sensor-shift shake reduction and a 1cm macro mode.

Back then, Pentax is known for its single lens camera, competing with other brands like Nikon and Kodak, but now with the fast evolution on Digital Single Lens Camera, Pentax has made a comeback proving that the name still holds the prestige.

And during this launch, I was amazed and had fun exploring and testing their colorful set of DLSR camera. They have this K Series, which is perfect for beginners and a good addition to the collection of professional photographers.

It also has a 77  segment metering system, magnesium alloy body, fully weather sealed, 14 bit RAW files in PEF and Adobe DNG, dual slot SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card, 1.1 frames per second, multiple JPG image processing modes, lens correction function and in-camera HDR image capture.

FYI, during the event, this camera was accidentally soaked in water, and guess what, it still works! ^_^

Okay, as for the program proper, we were introduced to the bosses of Super East Asia, the company that handles Pentax accounts here in the country. They said that they were very glad to have us there and delighted to know how many aspiring photographers are still into Pentax.

Then, they have Mr. Mark Dimalanta, well-know sports photographer, as their special guest. Mark who's been an avid Pentax fan since then, shared to us his wonderful experiences as a photographer. He was as just happy as the bosses of Super East Asia to introduced the new line of cameras of Pentax, most especially, the star camera of the day, the Pentax Q.

With a size as big as a playing card, Mark shared to us the awesome features of this "world's smallest camera with interchangeable lens".

Pentax Q - Php39,990.00 (with 8.5mm kit lens)

Pentax Q can be enjoyed through the amazing selection of Q Mount Lenses, from prime, zoom, fisheye lenses and more. It has the Traditional DSLR Shooting Modes that will give you that familiar settings and the Auto Picture, 21 Scene Modes and Smart Effects that will give you a more artistic touch on your photographs. It is a 12.4 megapixel camera and can capture a 1080p HD video. Other features include Sensor-shift Shake Reduction, 3-inch LCD monitor, captures up to 5 fps continuous shooting mode, shutter speeds range from 1/2000 to 30 seconds with bulb mode, built-in popup flash, and an optional shoe-mounted viewfinder attachment.

After that short program, they announced that as invited guests, we were asked to join their on-the-spot photo contest, wherein, participants will use the Pentax Q as our cameras. Whoa! And to exemplify the wonder features of this camera, we were told to apply special effects on it, meaning we have to enhance our photos using the Pentax Q's special features.

And out of the 20 participants who managed to learn the wonders of Pentax Q in a jiffy, guess what? I'm one of the 4 top photographers!! Wee! My first photo contest win, EVER! Hahaha!

And because of that, we were awarded with a Pentax RS1000!!! Wee!

Hard to believe, but I think my photo thing is improving! Hahaha!
Thank you, Super East Asia an Pentax!!! Watch out for my review on this cute little piece!
