The Pink Movement moves to Dance Floor

Did you know that there are 12 Filipinas that die everyday because of Cervical Cancer?

That’s E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y.

In this event that I got to attend to, they told us that Cervical Cancer is caused by a chronic and persistent cancer-causing type of Human Papilloma Virus or HPV infection that leads to pre-malignant lesions that progress to cancer. It is said that cervical cancer, globally, is considered the second most common caner with 529,409 new cases and 274,883 deaths in 2008 according to the World Health Organization.

In our country, there are more that 27 million Filipinas, age 15 and above, are at risk of cervical cancer. Scary, huh?

And as women tries to fight this deadly disease, I also learned from the event that men (YES, M-E-N, MEN!), can help our women fight this disease. And that’s just by being honest and being monogamy. Though, it is not directly said that this cancer is caused by having sex with different people, it can help stop spreading any bacterium related to it.

And part of this good news is, with this GlaxoSmithKline's Laban ni Maria event with the cooperation of Sorciage by Wacoal, Artistry by Amway, Healthway Medical, Magic 89.9 and Team Manila, we can ALL help OUR WOMEN prevent from having this disease. Other than the screening, which women should do regularly with their ob-gyne, and vaccination, which is offered by GlaxoSmithKline, there’s the healthy lifestyle that we should all practice. And one healthy way of living our lives is by DANCING!

So, on this event organized by Brainbox Inc. and held at Republiq, an open-for-all-female dance marathon was held lead by one of the country’s best dance guru, Georcelle Dapat-Sy, entitled The Pink Movement.

With the birth of new LED monitors all over the market, which one stands out for you? Are you that type who prefers LED monitors that do justice to your photo editing jobs, video post-production stuff, digital illustration techniques, graphic design works ot you're looking for something that is for some serious gaming and all that efficient mix of business and leisure?

Well, if you are one of those people who work on these kind of computer jobs, let me share to you what Mitch Mauricio, a well-known celebrity and fashion photographer, and Ton Lao, photographer and stylist of Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, Rayver Cruz, and Richard Gutierrez have to say about the new Samsung PX2370 LED Monitors.

“I need the colors to be very close to what I captured with my camera and also, what’s on the monitor should be very close to the print-outs” Mitch said. For her, the color quality is really important as she needs her monitor to reproduce the exact hues she shot with her camera.

Creating Shared Values to Beat Malnutrition

“An estimated 3.35 million Filipino children suffering from malnourishment and even though the government is doing its part, it cannot do everything necessary to solve the problem of malnutrition.”

That’s what I learned in the recently concluded Creating Shared Values (CSV) Forum last April 23 at the New World Hotel in Makati City.

With guest speakers Mario Capanza of Food and Nutrition Research Institute (an office under the Department of Science and Technology) and Mark Kramer of Harvard University and a social responsibility expert, they shared the importance of establishing CSV in order to promote a healthy living and create an environment which is good not only for the business but also for the society.

Virlanie’s 18th Year Anniversary

It was one of those heart-warming events where you get to see people celebrate for all the years they’ve been together by helping others – especially children – in giving this world a better and brighter future for the next generations.

That’s what I witnessed on the 18th Anniversary Celebration of Virlanie Foundation, Inc. at the Harbor Garden of Sofitel last July 17, 2010.

Lead by its founding leader, Monsieur Dominique Lemay, who also celebrated his 60th birthday that night, this event was attended by Virlanie Foundation’s partners, sponsors and volunteers to simply share a night that was dubbed as “Debut: Celebrating Smiles and New Beginnings.”

It was such a great honor to be invited in this kind of event because other than the fact that you’ll get to enjoy an amazing party, you’ll also get a chance to extend your help in your own little way. And I, being invited as a blogger to witness this monumental event, and share to my readers about this wonderful organization is such a wonderful pleasure of mine to give back.

The party was themed as masquerade, and though it was my first time to attend a masquerade party for a cause, I had a great time seeing everyone dressed and ready for the night’s event.

CSV Forum's Era of Collaboration

At the birth of the 21st century, no one knows what the future holds for every country, company, society or even to individuals. The success on one thing leads to failure of another. It is such great news to everybody that, now, the global economic crisis we had a year ago is slightly fading away, giving our country’s economy a more stable future. People are gaining back their lost jobs or if not, getting a new one. While some, with the help of some financial companies, were able to establish small and medium enterprises.

But with all these success, how long can we say that this crisis will not happen again? How can we assure ourselves that these problems will not occur again and will cause damage much worst than what we had?

Good thing that there are companies here and abroad who are willing to sacrifice themselves to prove that they can make a change – for a better company, for a better society, for a better country, for a better future of every individual.

In the Creating Shared Value (CSV) Forum held last April 23, 2010, a certain Harvard professor and social responsibility expert named Mark Kramer told that corporations and society stakeholders - including government, NGOs and aid agencies - to enter into a new era for their mutual benefit – the ERA OF COLLABORATION.

Inception on IMAX

It was my first time to watch in IMAX at SM Mall of Asia, and I must admit that I’m really excited for this. Especially when I learned that I’m having it for free and I’ll be watching one of the most anticipated films of the year – INCEPTION.

Freshly out of the office, geared up to face the strong winds brought by Bagyong Basyang, I headed to SM Mall of Asia for this exciting advance screening. Oh, yes, I watched it a day before it premieres in the States. Hahaha! I love you, Warner Bros. Philippines!

I arrived there on time, met the guy who has my ticket and as soon I got the tix, I entered the lounge of IMAX and got to enjoy the dinner that they prepared for us. Wee!

Equus by Repertory Philippines

If you haven’t seen or heard about the Equus of Repertory Philippines that has been playing at Onstage in Greenbelt 1, I think you’ve been missing a lot. And I mean, A LOT!

To give you a short background about this talked-about play, or should I say “THE PLAY OF THE YEAR”, Equus made its noise when Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) bravely took the Broadway challenge of playing Alan Strang, a 17-year-old boy who has been charged with the crime of blinding six horses by gouging out their eyes.

On this Repertory Philippines’ rendition of this world-renowned play by Peter Shaffer, Audie Gemora took care of the wheels of this wagon as he directed this play with his lead casts Marco Manalac as Alan Strang, Miguel Faustman as Dr. Martin Dysart and Pheona Baranda as Jill Mason.

It’s time for SNICKERS® Hunger Buster Challenge

I barely play online games because I feel that my time is too precious to spend on those addicting stuff, so instead, I spent my time blogging something about food or go out with my friends to make “chismisan” over sumptuous dinner or attend food blogging stuff.

I just love to eat. And I’m so into desserts, really.

Well, that was until I stumbled upon this game. Hahaha!

I love SNICKERS®. Well, who doesn’t? It is one of my “hapontukin” beaters while working in the office or my power food for the day. And I’m glad that it never fails me. And lately, I’m ditching some of the events or gathering because of this new stuff I found on the Web and I prefer having my SNICKERS® in front of my laptop.

Meet the new partner of my SNICKERS® bars - SNICKERS® Hunger Buster Challenge.

Sorry, my dear friends, I know this is not me, playing online game. But when you read about this SNICKERS® Hunger Buster Challenge, I sure you’ll play it, too!

I would never love this NEW game if it ain’t just because of SNICKERS®.
And honestly, if there’s a term for a person who’s more addict than addict, I think, that’s what you can call me now. Hahaha!

This fun and easy online game is really a hit to me because, first, it is fun to look for a missing SNICKERS® bar. And second, you can have a chance to win some cool prizes. Isn’t that awesome?

You get to enjoy your favourite SNICKERS® bar, get to relish a fun and wholesome online game and have a chance to take home some amazing stuff like Sony Play Station, Sony Ericsson mobile phones, Canon cameras, movie tickets and many more mystery gifts!

Fun, fun, fun!

Okay, so here’s the game that I’m so hooked into now.

Ballet Barbie

You just didn't know how the inner Geisha in me jump for joy when I saw these very elegant and stunning display of Barbie dolls dressed by the country's top designers.

Displayed for public at The Podium Mall, I got a chance to see these wonderful pieces adorned by the country's top and upcoming designers. From the classic Filipino look to the modern New Yorkish style, Barbie had it at the Ballet Barbie of Ballet Philippines!

Men, women, young and old ones all enjoyed this wonderful display of the most loved doll in the world. Though, there was nothing about Ken in this collection, I really admired everything simply because I'm a fan of local fashion and I really love when Filipino designers showcase their talents exuberantly.

Converse Spark Creativity

If there’s one thing that we all love about Converse, I think, that is their immortal design. And last Saturday, Converse proved again that, indeed, their designs are immortal with their outstanding and very creative art collection.

I was stunned to know that most of the pieces that we’re displayed were made by high school students and some by college students. These art pieces are part of the “You’re It” campaign of Converse, and this campaign is celebrated all over the world. So, as the Filipinos take the centre stage and showcase our true and unique artistry, Converse Philippines with the cooperation of Araneta Center brought the Converse Spark Creativity.

Here are some of the pieces that captivated my eyes and really made me proud Pinoy.
