XANADU sets to Rock your September

Brought to us by Atlantis Production, the Broadway musical comedy that opened in 2007 will rock Manila this September in an amazing and spectacular show. XANADU Manila is directed by Bobby Garcia and will hit Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati this coming September 3!

Quick background: XANADU is a hit movie back in the ‘80s which starred by Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. And by 2007, Broadway Musical, staged a musical comedy of this movie and garnered an outstanding review from different spectators from all over the world.

And here in the Philippines, XANADU will be starred by the pop singer and theatre actress Rachel Alejandro, who will play the role of Clio – a beautiful Greek muse who disguises herself as Kira when she arrived here on Earth. And adding a “kilig” moment to Kira’s story is Sonny Malone played by Felix Rivera.

This is the first time that both artists will play as love team onstage and also their first time to act as human onstage after their most talked about puppet show, Avenue Q

I had a chance to see the whole casts rehearsing, and here’s a short clip on what to expect from XANADU!

Joining to add a little spice to the story are Noel Trinidad, Leo Rialp, Chari Arespacochaga, Bea Garcia, Anthony Ong, Alys Sedenia, Glen Llanes, Robbie Zialcita and Yael Pineda.

I think one of the performances that we should watch out for on this play is the cool and mean tandem of the evil sisters. They look funny and mean, which I like! Hehe. And their voices, very powerful!

Lawyn Cruz will set design this show, Twinkle Zamora will do the costume, Cecile Martinez is up for choreography, musical direction by Ceejay Javier, lightning design by Jonsy Reyes and vocal coaching by ManMan Angsico.

XANADU Manila will feature the songs of pop-rock legends Jeff Lyne and John Farrar, including “Magic”, “All Over the World”, “Suddenly” (one of my favourites), “I’m Alive”, “Evil Woman”, “Have You Never Been Mellow” and “Xanadu”.

XANADU will run from September 3 to September 19, 2010. For tickets, you may call Atlantis Productions at 892-7078 or 840-1187. Or you can visit their website, www.atlantisproductionsinc.com.

See you there!
