Tasting Jai Ho

It’s another “treat-your-self” day as it is end of the month and its payday! Whoopee!

I didn’t get a chance to eat Japanese food last night, which I’m still drooling over today. Instead, me and my niece, Ikay, had bibingka and puto bumbong last night from the Bibinka stall in our subdivision. You can’t really say no to a sweet little girl.

Anyways, today at lunch, my lunch mate Rio and I headed to this “Jai Ho” land, the New Bombay at The Columns along Gil Puyat Avenue.

New Bombay

With our pocket freshly filled by salary money, we took a table just near the door, just in case the food here might be too expensive for us. (We can escape quickly. Lols.)

Luckily, we can afford it, somehow. So we with our order been taken, we opt to a better table where we can get a better view of the whole place.

The interior is simple, with a little touch of India, though, not that extravagant as I’m expecting. The first floor was designed for business-type people who would like to have an Indian cuisine in a formal place, and since it is here in the heart of Makati Business District. While the loft has an Indian theme, where we placed out sweet butts.

Interior (Loft Area) of New Bombay

The New Bombay peeps were nice to us, accommodating to the point where, well, since we can’t understand anything on the menu, the server explained to us those stuff and told us their specialty, which we ordered.

We had Safron Rice and Shrimp Malai Curry.
Just these two dishes, because we’re not really familiar with Indian cuisines.

Safron Rice – Php160.00

Shrimp Malai Curry – Php195.00

The Safron rice was really good. Basmati yellow rice mixed in dried fruits (raisins and cashew nuts). I liked the festive color of the dish. And the smell was really appetizing. The taste was balance, not that salty and not that sweet. Though, I’m quite unaccustomed to this kind of rice because of the cashew nuts and the raisins, which was quite hard to be eaten with rice. My lunch mate Rio separated those cashew nuts and raisins first before she ate. Hehe.

One thing that I don’t like about this dish is the serving. The lady told us that this was good for two, but when we saw the plate, we already knew that we will need an extra cup of rice. So we had an extra cup of ordinary rice.

Ordinary Rice – Php20.00

In fairness, with this regular rice, we appreciated Shrimp Malai Curry more.

The Shrimp Malai Curry was also good. We choose to have it mildly spicy, since again, we’re not that aware on how spicy this “mildly spicy” flavour would taste like. The pasty look of this was quite intriguing. Though, I would say that the presentation was so Indian. Served in a metal cup, they served it hot which was really great.

It tasted like a regular curry, only this with shrimp. I’d say that it was really delicious. It wasn’t too spicy, that’s why we enjoyed eating it. The aroma was also the typical curry, only with a little sting in my nose, since it was really offered to those who have high tolerance on spicy food.

And again, I think the serving was quite not enough, since again, the lady told us that it was good for two.

I’d like to go back here but not soon. And maybe next time, I’ll try their bread and their yogurt, since I noticed that the foreigners who were dinning there were having Cahapati or Naan and yogurt for their lunch.

“On a Diet” and Craving for Something!

My Gahd!

I need a one big slap on my face right now. I cannot live like this!

And every time I see a dish, I can get it out of my head - and taste buds!

But today, it’s different.

I’ve been working for 12 hours in the office for three consecutive days, and I feel so tired.
I wanna relax, I wanna rest…. I wanna treat myself.

And the best way to treat a tired middle child, like me, is to eat something really delicious. And by that delicious, I mean….

JAPANESE FOOD!

I wanna eat California Maki, Sashimi and Dumplings. Now!

California Maki

Sashimi

Fried Dumplings

The funny thing is, every time I see Japanese foods nowadays, they remind me of my Superfriends.

It has been our annual thing to eat and dare ourselves to eat different Japanese foods using chopsticks every Christmas night at Malate for the past 3 years. And we’re always having fun at each other once our idle fingers hold the sticks – we can’t get them to work properly! Lols!

Oh, it’s really nice to remember something great from delicious foods. It really cheers me up and makes me feel that I really deserve a break.

I just hope that I have enough moolah for this craving thing. Hehehe.

CrePes & Cream

When I went to the Chocolate Festival last Sunday at SM The Block, I have one target set in mind, to taste that CrePes & Cream crêpe.

I saw its picture on the Philippine Daily Inquirer that Sunday morning, and I can’t stop myself think about it honestly.

The moment I stepped my feet inside The Block, my eyes quickly scanned the whole event area to look for the stall of this overly chocolate-rich crêpe.

And in just a few second, target spotted!

CrePes & Cream

I ordered a Chocolate Temptation crêpe. The saleslady told me to just wait on my table and she’ll just deliver my order.

Excitement filling up my mind, heart and stomach, it took her almost 3 minutes to turn to my table and lay the tray that contains my Chocolate Temptation.

Chocolate Temptation with Chocolate Ice Cream – Php 95.00

Thank God that I still managed to control the drool that’s filling up my mouth. And by the time I took my spoon and scooped a brownie…

OH, MY GOD!!!

This is sooooooooo PERFECT!

The chocolate brownie bits, the almond flakes, the whipped cream, the choco syrup, the chocolate chips and the chocolate ice cream all wrapped in freshly cooked crêpe – HEAVEN!

It took me an hour to finish this. And my sweet tooth is jumping for joy for this awesome dessert.

For only Php95.00, I think this was worthy.

A spotter enjoying C&C

I left the Chocolate Festival with a big smile on my face, with a satisfied sweet tooth, and a big tummy. And I don’t feel guilty about this, even though, I didn’t tell my parent where I am going that afternoon. Lols.

Burp!

Oh, and the nice saleslady gave these coupons for my next visit, which will happen soon! Hahahaha! So sweet of her!

One Helluva Chocolate Festival

Happening at SM The Block, this chocolate festival is running until the 6th of November. With different varieties of chocolates from different store partners of SM The Block come the most awaited and sinfully sweetest Halloween event of the year.

Chocolate Castle

Chocolate River

Luckily, I had a chance to glimpse this amazing event and try the chocolate-iest offering of one of the store. (And since it is still on until the 6th, I’m planning to go back. Heheh.)

This amazing event features Trip to Chocolandia, giant chocolate cupcakes, chocolate history exhibit and chocolate Tasting Extravaganza!

And to make life sweeter, on the 6th they will have M&M’s Mascot and Chocolate festival elves performance.

When I went there last Sunday, I really had a great time. There a whole lot of chocolate choices which made me gaga. From choco balls, chocolate cakes, chocolate cookies, chocolate drinks, chocolate brownies, chocolate desserts and many, many more!

Fantastically, chocolate-y awesome!

Chocolate Cake by Kitchen of Cakes & Coffee – Php500.00+

Churros con Chocolate by Dulcinea – Php72.00

Chocolate Cookie by Chocolate Chip Haven – Php120.00

Chocolate Pastries by Coffee Works

Kids and parents alike were gathered last Sunday to enjoy picture-taking at the wonderfully made Chocolate Castle and Chocolate River. Others were having fun sitting in the giant cupcakes and enjoying the free wi-fi. And some were just crazy buying different chocolate delicacies to take home.

This is really one of the best chocolate event I’ve been to, promise!
I love it! I wanna live here! Lols!

So, what are you waiting for, chocolate-lovers? Attaaaaaaaaaaaack!

And, oh, yeah, Willy Wonka was there, too. *wink-wink*

Perfect Timing!

Last Friday, I was invited to join the Launch and Blogging event of Fit ‘n Right, the first fruit juice that markets L-Carnitine as an effective food ingredient that helps burn fats.

I’m looking forward to this event, primarily, because since I’m on a diet, I know that I’ll learn something out of this event to help me reduce my weight and tone my muscles.  And secondly, I’m excited because the event will be held at Taste Asia at SM Mall of Asia, I know that I’ll get a chance to eat my favorite seafood dish, the Shrimp Thermidor.

Taste Asia

Shrimp Thermidor

The organizers and usherettes welcomed us warmly. They led us to this sumptuous buffet table where we can eat as many as we can. Niiiiice! I love it!

Hello, Shrimp Thermidor!

My dinner plate

BUT!

During the event, we were introduced to a lot of people. People who opened our eyes to reality – BEING SEXY IS NOT ALWAYS BEING FIT AND RIGHT.

And that was the time I felt guilty. Guilty because I ate a lot! When I saw that Shrimp Thermidor, I forgot that I’m on a diet! My gosh! What have I done to deserve this?! Hahahahaha!

Seriously, I felt bad after eating that overly luscious dinner. Plus, having this very delectable dessert, I’m guilty as charged.

The man of the hour was this guy:

Coach Jim Saret

Coach Jim Saret is a sport scientist who obtained his MS Sports Science degree from Brigham Young University in the US. He is a core training expert and a sports and fitness writer and lecturer. Currently, he is the Sports Program Head of the Ateneo de Manila University and the Strength and Conditioning Coach of the PBA, POC, and the PSC.

I’m so glad that I had a chance to sit and listen in one of the greatest lectures on living fit and right.

Learning F.I.T or the Fast Intense Training as an effective way to lose calories in your body is really awesome!

In  the event, he had a guy who weighs, I think, 200 pounds or more demonstrated to us his 4-minute exercise. After four minutes, he lost 96 calories. We were delighted and we can’t help but to clap, but Coach Saret interrupted us immediately and told us, that it was just the beginning. And into our amazement, after one and a half hourh while the lecture continues and the guy just sat in one corner, with the help of his body calorie meter, he lost as much as 400+ calories in his body! I cannot believe it at first, but, hell, yeah, I saw it all with my own two eyes! Really amazing!

The secret?
Del Monte Fit ‘n Right!

Del Monte Fit ‘n Right

And to prove that it wasn’t a joke, he asked three bloggers to participate and perform the said F.I.T. exercise. And in just four minutes again, the three bloggers, Dani, Earth and Jeff were all sweating and catching up breath.

Team Bloggers

According to Coach Saret, the guy drank a bottle of Fit ‘n Right TWO HOURS BEFORE he did his 4-minute exercise, which was the suggested time allowance for Fit ‘n Right to circulate all over our body.

Coach Saret also brought some of his team members to demonstrate other exercises which only need few easy gadgets, which implied that you can exercise anytime and anywhere you like. There’s really no need to go to the gym! Less expenses, more calories burned!

Team Fit 'n Right

And in line with F.I.T., they also informed us about the upcoming “Dare to be Fit ‘n Right Fun Run.”

I know that most of us are too lazy to exercise, and with the Christmas holiday coming, exercises can wait. But it’s wrong -- TOO WRONG!

I believe that it is better to start exercising at this early time, so that by the time that Christmas holiday comes, our metabolism is already different. Our body can acquire as much food as we want and can already burn the calories quickly because of our fit and right routine.

Now is never too late!

♫Let’s get physical, physical! ♫

So now, our refrigerator is equipped for this goal! Cowabungga!

Pizza? It’s wrapped!

I had lots of thing to finish last night in the office, and as busy as a bee I was, I don’t have the luxury to have my dinner properly. Plus, my office mate-slash-friend Rio was absent yesterday, so I’m not in the mood to eat out.

Making the situation worse, since I made the Yellow Cab pizza as my desktop’s screensaver, I can’t help but to crave for pizza. I want pizza! I want pizza! I want Pizza!

Sadly, I don’t have enough moolah, and ordering a box of pizza is too much for me.

Note to his self: YOU’RE ON A DIET!

Thankfully, KFC is just around the corner from the office, and they have this new offering!

The Twister Toasted!

KFC Twister Toasted – Php79.00 – ala carte
Php 89.00 – with regular soft drinks

When I saw their commercial, I was curious what it taste like. And since I’m a pizza lover and KFC Gogo Ceasar Sandwich lover, too, I tried it last night.

Pizza rolled into a Gogo Sandwich-like dish. It’s like a shawarma, only tasted a lot like pizza and has KFC chicken in it. It also has mozzarella cheese, onion, chicken and beef pepperoni and other “meat-lover pizza” ingredients in it.

I like it! It tastes good, really. It’s quite the same size as their Gogo Sandwich, so I’m glad about it. But for those with big appetite, I don’t think this will be enough for you.

The downside, I just think that it’s quite price-y. Unlike their Gogo Sandwich which is like Php57.00, this one is quite expensive for a food which is something like that. Though, if I’ll base it to their other Toasted Meal, the Cheesy Barbeque Melt, it is almost the same, so no wonder it’s costly.

But if you’re on rush like me, try it, it’s really good. It can be a comfort food, too! And it is easy to eat, not too messy and comes in a very nice package.

I was intoxicated by this meal. It lessens the pressure that I had last night, and with that, I finished all my deadlines.

Thank God!

Happy eating!

Wait For Me, Bicol!

My superfriend Mean just came from Bicol. And I really envy her!!!

I love Philippines, honestly! And one of my greatest dreams is to explore every island, every scenery, every tourist spot and every hidden paradise of it! And one place that I really wanna visit before this year ends is Bicolandia.

Ever since I was I young boy I love looking at the postcard of Mayon Volcano, and now that I’m earning my own money, I MUST and WILL see that spectacular tourist spot.

Another greatest reason why I love traveling is I love eating. One big part whenever I travel is to taste the local delicacies of that place. May it be exotic food or some normal delicacy, I’m game!

Mean gave me Pili Tart as her “pasalubong”. One of the local pastries that I enjoy and love to eat. Thank you, Mean!

Bicolandia is well-known from its spicy dishes. But do not forget that they are also good in sweet foods, and one great example of it is this pili tart. Often times, pili or walnuts we’re fried and then cooked in honey or molasses. Perfect as your dessert, my Mom really enjoys eating pili like this.

But for me, the pili tart is still the best. The pili tart that Mean gave to me is different -- more delicious. It has a peanut butter on it! Ooooh, so yummy!

It's like the Star Kisses of Bohol, only softer.

Pili Tart

Now, I can’t really wait! I wanna go to Bicol, now na! I’ll buy lots of this!
December 27 to 29, 2009, Bicol here I coooooooooooome! Wee!

Halloween Foodies!

Halloween is just around the corner, since I don’t have any invites for a Halloween party, same goes with my Superfriends, we decided to have our FIRST EVER Halloween celebration.

We all agreed to chip in just to have something nice for the coming Halloween, and since we’re on a tight budget and with their kids to party with us, we decided to have a “not-so-scary” party.

I already went to Divisoria to do some listings and window shopping on what to buy for our props and costumes, to go with our theme.

I have listed balloons (orange and black), masks (as part of the theme), and other items like plastic pumpkin baskets, candies and candles.

But on the most important thing in any party, we’re still undecided – THE FOOD!

I told them some ideal food for the party, which is also perfect for the kiddos and here they are:

Picca-picca

I told them to that we should have finger foods, so its either we have this one on the picture or Halloween crackers which will match the theme.

Yellow Cab Pizza

My next suggestion is, of course, to have pizza. An 18-inch pizza from Yellow Cab is perfect for us! We’re all pizza lovers! The colors are really perfect for the event.

I also suggested some sweets! Other than the candies and chocolates that we’re planning to have, little chocolate cupcakes with orange icing or orange sprinkle candies on top of it or some topical fruits will be perfect for the occasion.

But, I think, when they know that Krispy Kreme has these cool doughnuts, the Halloween Doughnuts, we’re all agree to have these instead. Hehe.

Krispy sKreme Halloween Doughnuts

Oooooooh, they look so good and very delicious!! Yummy!

And for our drinks, we’re still thinking if we’re going to have wine or other alcoholic drinks….. This a party, come on, guys!

Cocktail

My first suggestion for our drinks is Bloody Mary, really perfect for the occasion, but since we now have kiddos in our group, we’re still thinking what to drink.

I’ll post our pictures here if we’re successful enough to have this Halloween Party.
I just hope that we have a chance to celebrate Halloween this time with their kiddos, because it’ll be really fun!

Lastly....
